Mortgage Payment Holidays

Many of you will have heard that the Government have arranged for Mortgage lenders to offer a payment holiday for those affected by COVID-19. The quickest and easiest way to apply is online via your lenders website e.g. Santander.co.uk There will be a heading, Mortgage Payment Holiday, to click on and follow the instructions to complete a quick and easy request form. Lenders aim to confirm acceptance within 48/72hrs.

The maximum payment holiday is 3 months and in general, the missed payments will be added to the balance outstanding and result in a slightly bigger monthly payment in the future. You should read and consider the terms and conditions of your lender before making a request.

I spoke to someone (at distance) while walking my dog who said they had spent 2 hours on the phone to arrange a payment holiday, whereas it will take a few minutes online.
