Support in our Community
Lyndhurst supports many events in our community and one we have particularly enjoyed supporting since the inaugural tournament in 2023 is the Letchworth Garden Hospice Care Community Cup. This 6-a-side football tournament brings teams from local businesses and clubs together for a day of fun and friendly football to raise funds for Letchworth Garden House Hospice but of course, to be the team to lift the trophy too!
Lyndhurst had success in 2023 in the blistering heat which became a battle of attrition as the sun beat down on competitors all day. It was only right that we should be there to try and defend our title in 2024.
The weather was somewhat different this year with rain falling heavily in the opening games. Competing in the league stage was brought to a halt by a welcome barbeque and burger for lunch before concluding in the afternoon to decide the final positions for the semi-finals and the final.
Lyndhurst dug in during the league phase to finish second in the table behind LDD and played Greenacres in the semifinal. In a competitively fought match against a well-organised side, Lyndhurst managed to come out on top and reach the final for the second year in a row.
The final was always going to be tough against LDD who had one the league phase and LDD took a 2 goal lead before Lyndhurst struck back with a freekick late on. Unfortunately, the final whistle came before any chance of an equaliser and LDD were worthy champions on the day.
It was once again an enjoyable day and extremely well organised. Thanks to Harry and the team at Garden House Hospice Care for inviting us. We understand the event raised £3,300 and counting for the hospice.
